Halloween Treats

I found some fun Halloween recipes on another blog. We had grandma and grandpa in town visiting so we decided to have a halloween week. Here are a few of the things we had.I made eyeballs the first night, which were really easy to make.

To make the eyeballs you will need...

3.4 oz. box vanilla pudding mix

jelly beans (use the black ones)

gummy lifesavers

plastic easter eggs (use the smaller half)

2 empty egg cartons

make pudding according to the directions on the box. Fit a jelly bean in the center of a gummy saver and place it in one half of the plastic egg. Fill the egg with a dallop of pudding and place in the egg carton for support. Place in the freezer for 3 hours, you want them to be firm. To remove after they're set, let them rest at room temperature for about 5 min. and then gently squeeze them out of the plastic egg. Ready for use immediately or place into a freezer safe dish and keep for up to 2 days before use. Make about 24 eyeballs.

The next night I made worms on top of dirt (crushed oreos). The worms look real and my kids actually thought I was feeding them real worms at first and protested eating them. I have to say they look really disgusting and feel really creepy too.

to make the Jello Worms you will need...
100 flexible plastic straws (place bendable neck at the bottom of the container)
An empty, clean 1 qt. milk or OJ carton to hold the straws ( I used a large cup)
(straws will fill up to the height of the container, the taller the better).
1pkg (6OZ) raspberry or grape flavor gelatin
3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3/4 cup whipping cream
12-15 drops of green food coloring
waxed paper
combine gelatins in a bowl and add boiling water, stir until gelatins completely dissolve. Chill until lukewarm, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, gently pull straws to extend to full length, place in tall container. Wrap together with a loose rubber band to hold straws together. Blend whipping cream and food coloring with the lukewarm gelating mixture. Carefully pour into container, filling straws. Chill until firm, at least 8 hours, or cover and chill up to 2 days. Pull staws from container, pull straws apart. Run hot tap water for about 2 seconde over 3-4 straws at a time. Starting at the empty ends, push worms from staws with rolling pin or use your fingers. lay worms on waxed paper lined baking sheet. Cover and chill until ready to use, at least 1 hour or up to 2 days. Worms will hold at room temperature for about 2 hours.

A few nights later (we had to give grandpa a break)we made Candy Corn Bark. Grandpa liked this one best.

To make the Candy Corn Bark you will need...

Line a cookie sheet with tinfoil and place a layer of milk chocolate (or white) chips and melt in preheated over at 250 degrees for 5 min. Sread melted chips in a smooth thin layer. Place in refrigerator for 20 minutes till chilled. Then add next layer of white chocolate. Melt the chips in the microwave at 20 seconds intervals stirring the chips between each turn. Let cool till warm but still spreadable. Quickly spread over 1st layer. Add candy corn and sprinkles and place back in fridge to chill. One chilled break into bite size pieces. Store in a container and keep refrigerated to prevent melting.
